Levan Aroshidze winner. IM Renier Gonzalez gets GM norm
The drawn game on the first board between GM Jose Gonzalez and the IM Renier Gonzalez made sure that Renier got his third and definitive GM norm. Thus, Renier Gonzalez, started the Tournament as IM and he finishes with the title of Grandmaster.
This drawn game has allowed but that his immediatly followers got them. Thus, the GM Mihail Marin who has defeated the IM Deep Sengupta, the GM Viktor Moskalenko has taken revenge of IM Yuri Lapshun. Last year, in the last round, Yuri Lapshun defeated Moskalenko. And on the fourth board, Levan Aroshidze has defeated the Hindu Ashwin Jayaram.
In this way, 5 players has been tied in the first place with 7 points. The tie-break system applied, the Bucholz Medium, which counts the points of the opponents, excluding the worst and the best opponents, has given the victory to the GM from Georgia, Levan Aroshidze.
The Final Standings, ahead for Levan Aroshidze, and followed with the same points for Viktor Moskalenko, Renier Gonzalez, Mihail Marin and José Gonzalez.
The prize for the best player from Girona, with 500 euros, has been for the IM Jordi Fluvià.
The best woman player has been Ana Matnadze. This prize is 300 euros.
The best under-16 has been the catalan Àlvar Alonso of the Club Escacs Gerunda
In the B group, the final victory has been for the Italian Andrea Dini who has led the Tournament in every moment. A drawn game in the last round has been suficient to garantee the championship, tied in points with the Catalan Jordi Diaz Comas who in the final tie-break has been second.
In this B group, the final standings has been followed for: Hugues Lambert, the young girl from Netherlands sub-16 Yvonne Ferrier, the Italian Luca Bernardini and the also French girl Barbara Perrusset.

Exciting until the end
The drawn game between Renier Gonzalez and Levan Aroshide on the first board and the victories of GM Jose Gonzalez against IM Jordi Fluvia and IM Deep Sengupta against GM Javier Campos Moreno, do that just before start the last round three players are tied in the first position with 6,5 points: Renier Gonzalez, Jose Gonzalez and Deep Sengupta. Among them, probably, one will become the winner in the ninth and last round which will be played at 9.00h morning
Viktor Moskalenko has defeated IM French Giffard, Mihail Marin has defeated Den Kelder, Lapshun to Przybylski, and Ashwin to Sopio Nikoladze and do that these players are placed with 6 points, only half point behind the leaders.
In B group, the first boards drew and this do than there is a regrouping. Thus, Andrea Dini is still sole leader with 7 points, Jordi Diaz Comas follows him only behind half point with 6,5, and Simon Auvray, Yvonne Ferrier, Hugues Lambert, and Marco Meijer with 6 points.
From games of tomorrow, where some GM norms and IM norms can down, stands out: Renier Gonzalez against Jose Gonzalez, Mihail Marin against Deep Sengupta, Yury Lapshun against Viktor Moskalenko, Levan Aroshidze against Ashwin Jayaram.

IM Renier Gonzalez defeats IM Jordi Fluvià and he is the new leader of the Tournament
The International Master Renier Gonzalez has defeated in the first board the IM Jordi Fluvia and he has taken the leadership. In this way, Renier Gonzalez from USA is placed sole leader with 6 points.
With 5,5 points, there are, including Jordi Fluvia, the GM from Chile Javier Campos who has defeated GM Davit Shengelia, the GM from Mexico José Gonzalez who has defeated the French Nicolas Coursaget and the GM Levan Aroshidze and the IM Deep Sengupta who drew in the second board.
Thus, it is not clear who will be the final winner.
In the B group, Andrea Dini has defeated Marco Meijer from Netherland and he is still being leader with 6,5 points, followed for the Catalan Jordi Diaz Comas who has defeated the French Hugues Lambert and he is still being second with 6 points. The French Simon Auvray and the French girl Yvonne Ferrier have won their games and they are in the following group with 5,5 points.

Jordi Fluvia beats Deep Sengupta and he is the new leader. Nigel Short has to leave the Tournament for medical reasons
The young Catalan International Master Jordi Fluvià leads the Banyoles Tournament after defeating, today, the Hindu International Master Deep Sengupta who, until today, was first.
In the following group, stand out the victories of the IM Renier Gonzalez in front of the IM Leon Piasetski from Canada that it places him in the second position with 5 points, with the same points than Deep Sengupta, and Levan Aroshidze who today drew in the second board against the GM Jose Gonzalez from Mexico.
The provisional standings are leadered by IM Jordi Fluvià with 5,5 points, followed by IM Deep Sengupta, IM Renier Gonzalez and GM Levan Aroshidze with 5 points, followed with 4,5 by a group of players such as: GM Nigel Short, GM Mihail Marin, GM Jose Gonzalez, GM Davit Shengelia, GM Javier Campos Moreno, GM Viktor Moskalenko, the International Master Sebastian Feller and the FIDE Masters Fide Wojciech Prybylski and Nicolas Coursaget.
Nigel Short has to leave the Tournament
Nigel Short, who today has defeated Nisha Mohota and he placed with 4,5 points inside the group following the leaders, has to leave the tournament by medical reasons. A painful lumbar lession that he is suffering from time ago doesn't allow to him stay in active in the Tournament and he must come back to his country following medical criterias.
Stands out that, in the Chess Festival, Nigel Short has played 15 games with 10 victories, 5 drawn games and nothing lost and he amazed everybody with his magistral class of the 17th of August.
In the B group, Andrea Dini has signed draw with the Catalan Jordi Diaz and he is in front of the standings with 5,5 points, followed by Jordi Diaz, the French Hugues Lambert who today has defeated Francesc Xavier Saurina and Meijer Marco who has defeated Fernando Olmos.
The defeat of Deep Sengupta in A group and the drawn game of Andrea Dini in the B group, make that, this year, nobody can win the special prize in Memory of Lluís Muratet.
Azer Mirzoev will be, for the moment, the sole player who, in 2004, achieved this prize.

Deep Sengupta leader
The young Hindu under-20 and International Master Deep Sengupta is the sole leader after defeating the young under-16 French International Master Sebastien Feller. Thus, Deep is placed with 5 points of 5 possibles
In the next boards, the Catalan International Master Jordi Fluvià has defeated the Grandmaster from Georgia and number 2 in the starting ranking, Davit Shengelia, and he is second with 4,5 points, the same points as the Georgian GM Levan Aroshidze who has beaten the GM and number 3 in the starting rank, Viktor Moskalenko.
Nigel Short had his third consecutive drawn game, this time against the International Master Renier Gonzalez from USA.
In the rest of boards, the drawn game among the young Catalan player Alvar Alonso and GM Ruslan Pogorelov stands out.

Nigel Short couldn't win against Peter Sowray, signed a drawn game, and he is with 3 points.

Nigel Short, Moskalenko & Marin can't achieve their victories
The grandmaters: Nigel Short, Viktor Moskalenko and Mihail Marin, main favourites to the final winning, couldn't win today theirs opononents and they have to signed a drawn game. In this way, Nigel Short made draw against the Polish Wojciech Przybylski, Victor Moskalenko made draw against the young Catalan FM Robert Alomà, and Romanian grandmaster Mihail Marin made draw against the WGM from India Nisha Mohota.
In the rest of boards, stands out: the drawn game of the Catalan WFM Mònica Vilar against the GM José Gonzalez and the drawn game of the young Martí Mayo against the IM from Georgia Ana Matnadze.

Some titled players can't achieve their victories
Today, Nigel Short defeated in a hard game to the Russian WGM Eugenia Chasovnikova. Some International Masters couldn't win their games, such as GM José Gonzalez, from Mexico who drew with the Italian Omeri Silvan, the GM from Chile, Javier Campos who drew with the young promise of the Catalan chess, Martí Mayo, and the Ukranian Grandmaster Ruslam Pogorolov who drew against the young Robin Van Kampen. The International Master Jordi Fluvia couldn't won and drew with the exchampion Spanish-women WFM Monica Vilar
The most interesting pairings of tomorrow are: GM Nigel Short - FM Przybylski from Poland in the first board, French IM Nicolas Giffard - Georgian GM Davit Shengelia, Catalan FM Robert Alomà - GM Viktor Moskalenko.

First surprises in the first boards
The first round started. Stands out the victory of the Catalan Jordi Morcillo against the North-American International Master Yuri Lapshun, ranked 9 and who last year was one of the best players in this tournament.
In the rest of the boards, there weren't too many surprises, only except the drawn game of the IM Ana Matnadze against Pablo Arranz and the young international promise, the WMF Sopiko Guramishvili who also drew against Peter Svendsen
The Organization has achieved a minimum of not presentation in the first round.
