Dear chessfriend:

  We are preparing a new edition of the Festival of Chess of Banyoles. With this edition we arrive already at the 10th.

Like already we made in the former editions, the Festival consists of two tournaments. First it will play a tournament of Rapid Chess, in memory of the one who was president of the Club of Chess and founder of the International Tournament, Mr. Lluís Muratet. The Tournament will play the 15th August and the rhythm of game will be from 15 min. with increase of 5 seconds (if we have enough digital watches) otherwise, the rhythm will be 20 minutes/game.

Next it will hold the already consolidated International Tournament, which it will be celebrated from the 16th to the 24th August, in daily round in the afternoon, excluding the last round that it will play in the morning.

If the last year we made the impossible effort for that it came to participate the mythical GM Viktor Korchnoi, and we achieved it, this year we have the will that the stellar player of the tournament is the GM Nigel Short, also ex-vice-champion of the world.

The tournament will be celebrated a year more in the facilities of the Hotel Mirallac. Hotel of four stars, placed near the Lake of Banyoles. The Hotel has swimming pool and is the delight of the younger players once finished their games.

It satisfies us to be the Tournament with a huge participation of foreign players. Last year they came more than one a hundred of foreign players, the one that really constitutes it as a International Tournament.

For the foreign players, who do not know Banyoles yet, to say that:
Banyoles is in the North of Catalonia, between Barcelona (100 kms) and France (40 kms), near Girona (15 kms) and to some 50 kms of the Costa Brava.
If you travel by plane, I suggest you to use the low-cost airline www.ryanair.com, with destination Girona Airport (GRO-AIRPORT)
If you travel from Barcelone, it is good to consult the bus-line Teisa. The time-table of the buses from Barcelona are in:www.teisa-bus.com
